Federal Government Places Faith in Innovative Mobility Platform

Melbourne, Australia - 25 November – Melbourne based technology company InterDev R&D has been awarded a $250,000 grant by the Federal Government to develop a new business grade mobility solution that will help businesses and employees work more freely and flexibly.
The grant, which has been made by AusIndustry under the Commercial Ready Programme, will help InterDev to further develop and commercialise a promising new mobile middleware platform known as ‘Xmotion’, which it also hopes to export to the world.

Xmotion will break new ground by delivering reliable, secure and cost effective mobile data solutions for business applications.
“Essentially there is a huge untapped market out there of businesses whose workforces use a myriad of mobile devices like PDAs and smart phones but who are missing a common platform to link these mobile devices to their back-end systems, for instance databases and business applications,” said John Bird, InterDev’s Technical Director “Business grade mobility applications and services currently place a very distant second to consumer based services in the market today. The focus of most providers centre around consumer based entertainment and information, and arguably aligns itself more with mobile phones and voice communications.”

Historically, business grade mobile data applications have been hampered by high costs of development and integration costs and low speed network availability.

“Xmotion will deliver an innovative solution to the traditional barriers facing organisations deploying mobility applications,” said Mr Bird. “It will provide benefits such as network detection and switching which will detect communications characteristics and/or limitations, and optimise the wireless communications accordingly.

“Given that wireless and mobile devices tend to be ‘casually connected’, communications can be interrupted or unavailable for periods of time. Xmotion will have the ability to transparently switch between available networks without user intervention or data loss and will deliver the information when an appropriate network is available.

“Business applications require reliability in data communications. Xmotion will deliver this by ensuring messages and data are received and verified by the server. Xmotion can be implemented in a redundant architecture design, ensuring full Enterprise suitability.
Integration is also a key component of InterDev’s new mobile middleware. The Xmotion platform will provide open, standards based transactions that are easily accessible by existing business solutions and easy to integrate in an enterprise environment.

Xmotion will also provide an ‘application ready’ framework that allow business applications to be rapidly developed or migrated to Xmotion, without the need to understand the complex communication, security and fault tolerance issues.

“InterDev R&D are very excited about the possibilities of Xmotion” said Andrew Rossington InterDev’s Marketing Director.
“The support we have had from AusIndustry, along with support from Microsoft and the Victoria.net cluster has been fabulous. The lack of business grade mobility platforms available in the market provides a great opportunity for Australian innovation. It is great to see the investment by the Australian government and support from organisations such as Microsoft.”
